Hey all,

I am building a graphics rendering box for my cousins. I am thinking of getting a motherboard with two cpu sockets and having two Intel Dual Core processors, which will give me four physical processors. I know Windows XP is limited to 2 physical processors, but I heard that Windows can handle two dual core CPU's. Is this true? Thanks.

There are no dual S775 boards, and there are no dual core Xeon's yet (2006 Q1).

I've used dual Xeon's before and Windows XP only recognized 2 processors, not 4 like it should have from the hyperthreading.

It should have, if you were using WinXP Pro. WinXP Pro, I believe, is limited to 2 physical processors, but either up to 8 or unlimited virtual cores. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I edited my post...

You're right, it did see all 4 processors, I was confused with another project I was doing at the time.

The only dual core that comes with HT from Intel is the Pentium D 840.

Isnt that the Pentium Extreme Edition?

Yea, I thought the only dual core hyperthreaded CPU was the new extreme edition.

yes, it supports it. DCDPHT is supported on WinXP Pro. Intel worked it out with Microsoft that even though its dual core, Microsoft only works on a PER PACKAGE basis.
WinXP home won't work.
