can the heatsink destroy the processor?

Today I tried to install a pentium 1ghz processor using a slot 1 to socket 370 converter into a slot 1 pIII mb. I used a heatsink that was compatible with piii processors, tualatin to be exact. Although my processor was a coppermine, the heat sink still fit on okay. When i went to power on the system, it didn't boot.

I decided to try the processor in my mom's dell which is a socket 370 board. The system powered up but did not boot. I didn't use any heatsink when testing with my moms dell because the system was only on for 5 seconds.

I had just purchased this processor off of EBAY. It as a"working system pull" "no DOA".

When i received the package frpom the seller, the processor was jamed against the side of the box with an airpack. Some of the pins were bent, but I was able to realign them.

Do you guys think the processor was destroyed by my heatsink. Or came DOA?

Yeah but it didnt work at all even when it had proper cooling. The processor never got hot in any of the systems, I doubt it would be destroyed by not using the heatsink for five seconds.

Best response is just to quote M4d-K10wN, "Stupidity has no limits...".

We are past the point of caring if it did or did not work before you pulled this stunt.

Send it back and give a bad review on EBay. The shipping was bad and was received damaged. End of story. Now quit using EBay to buy used parts and get a replacement from a reputable vendor.

NEXT! :p

Aight im a f**kin idiot. Anyway I guess I was just anxious cause I fried every possible component in a computer in the past.

I tried the processor in my mom's dell with the dell heatsink and it booted up fine.

The proccessor just doesn't work with the slot 1- to socket 370 converter in my intel vc820 motherboard.

I find it hard to believe it worked after being turned on with no heatsink, those p3 1gigs ran pretty toasty.
