first, system specs:
e6600
EVGA 680i SLI mobo
Tuniq Tower heatsink and fan
3gb g.skill ram ddr2 800

i'm currently running at 3.33ghz stable, but if i try to push it to 3.6(1600 FSB according to bios, 9x) or more and then run orthos right after starting a cpu stress test it says "rounded to .5, .4 was expected" it keeps beeping and won't continue. is there a setting i'm missing in bios? i know people are getting to 3.6ghz easily, so what am i doing wrong? thanks.

Voltage? Temps? RAM Timings?

Sounds like a RAM timing issue to me, but that's just a guess without more info :)

Not all cpu's OC the same, remember these are rated @ 2.4 so pushing it to 3.6 is a huge OC.

It might be your mobo that is limited, or you need to increase the voltage on the cpu, you can try dropping the multiplier down to 8 and try for 400 fsb, if it still errors try upping the voltage a little (stay under 1.4)

voltage:
cpu: 1.4
fsb: 1.4
mem: 2.0
mem timing: 5-5-5-15

i should also mention that i have to un-link the ram and FSB to get it to boot pass about 1200 FSB, my computer wont boot with my ram over 900mhz. but from what i understand 800mhz is ideal for 1600 FSB so maybe i should lower my ram's mhz and then link them?

Huh?

FSB is "quad pumped" (or whatever its called) so = 4x, Ram = 2x, so if you set it to 400 (1600) your ram is only running @ 800.

the defaults for my system set the FSB at 1066 and the ram at 800, so if i link them i cant raise it much at all because it wont boot over 900 for the ram.

What is the ratio on them? Its probably not set to synced (1:1) and probably using another multiplier.

If you set them to synced (1:1) it should put them @ 533 when you are at 1066 FSB.

You can of course run them unlinked which just chooses a multiplier for you. You might have to raise the voltage on the memory if you want it to go over 800mhz.

ok so i set it to sync'd, put the FSB at 1600(400) and it booted fine, but i get this error in orthos: "rounding was.5, expected less than .4" ><

I'm not sure what that error itself means, but it means the computer isn't 100% stable. So you will either need to up the voltage, or lower the multiplier/fsb.

Bump your FSB up a little bit. 3.3 seems low in comparison to most of the e6660s out there, mine seemed to stop at 3.6, but I couldn't tell if it was a mobo(p5b dlx) limit or proc cap.

Lots of things you could do, but be careful, 900mhz is a big jump for any proc really so don't jepordize your system. :)

currently 30 minutes into orthos with my proc at 1.52v and 3.6ghz, looking good so far!

Be careful, I know 3.6ghz sounds like the magic number, but 1.52v is a lot of power for air cooling. I wanted to hit 3.6 badly with my processor, but I just didn't feel comfortable going over 1.55v without water cooling. In the end, I stuck with 3.4ghz because a 200mhz difference isn't worth it to me.

QFT!!! That voltage is quite high bro, be very careful. I know e6600s aren't expensive but why waste money?

The difference in minimal at best between 3.4 and 3.6, i've noticed a difference at 400mhz, but not 200. I always clock my processors as high as I can, but safely. 3.4 seems safe here.

I always say "what ever your heart desires, go for it" I like my E6600 at 3.2GHz 1.4v on x8 multi :) It's cooled great runs better than x6800 and does not require crazy voltages :) a perfect spot imo, and ram is 1000MHz.

In gaming a difference between 3.2 and 3.6 is 5-10 frames.

as long as my temps stay ok the voltage is fine though right? cause right now my temps are at about 60c under load, which from what i can gather is pretty safe? i dunno, i might back it down some.
