Ratings for this SSD seem to be rather good and you can get a 1TB model for $379 in a lot of places. Anyone had any bad experiences with one?
I don't really care that much about performance #'s as this is for my personal machine and I do minimal work that would truly tax it. I love my M4, so I'm just looking for a similar drive with more space and a hair more juice.

The only thing holding me back is that I'd like an M.2 drive since my Mobo features it. Anyone know about a Crucial 1TB M.2 drive on the way?
 
The BX100 I built into a friends system works fine so far. The MX100 I built into another friends PC, too. Nothing bad to say about performance or compatibility issues.

But there is one thing that bothers me. Both of them are not honest with their Power-On-Hours smart values. They just do not count right. After installing Windows 8.1 and updating drive firmware to MU02 the poh (power on hours) counter was at 1 hour. I kept the PC running for 2 days - poh: still 1h. There was no shutdown, energy saving or hibernation mode. Kept the PC running for about 9 days - poh: 5h

Same goes for the MX100. I have no current numbers, but when I last checked this PC the poh count was to low too.
Numbers where checked with CrystalDiskInfo 6.3.2 and the Crucial Storage Executive Tool.

Regarding M.2 drives: currently there are no bigger drives available than 512GB regardless of which vendor

Do the drives ignore the time that they spend in power-saving mode? I assume when they are not reading/writing that they must have some idle state that they revert to in order to conserve energy, which helps mobile devices with battery life. Maybe that time is simply not factored into their POH calculations?

This could be an explanation. Although this would be contradictory to the way most people expect how the POH value works. In my experience HDDs and most SSDs just count the hours the drive is powered on.
Unfortunately I don't have regular access to these drives anymore. I'd be curious to do some more testing.

Another personal downside with recent Crucial drives is the fact, that their SSD tool "Storage Executive" is web based. There is a little tray icon, but when you click on it, your default browser opens with http://localhost:8080/storageexecutive/gui/... giving you acces to firmware check/update, smart value overview and so on. Technically there is nothing wrong, but in my personal opinion it feels kind of wrong doing it this way.

Crucial does this to save work when coding for multiple platforms. The webserver will emit the same data for every OS.
 
Bought a couple of them.

Erm...as good as any other SSD I've bought. Essentially I cant tell any of them apart other than size.

That is intresting, I wonder how samsung works, they have very low power states.. Maybe others are trying to catch up but not doing it properly, I cant see how after you shut down the CPU, you can still keep track of time. It is the drive itself that keeps track of it. They have lowe power states that takes less power than even sleep modes. So that circuit must shot down the drive and reboot it when you access the drive again. I saw a review where they could not get crucial drives into this state even though it supposedly had it. Might be crucials answer to shut the electronics down using a seperate controller.
 
I just want ahead and went for it. I had a $75 Amazon credit, so $300 for a terabyte seemed too good to ignore. Especially because my M4 is nearly full and Batman looks to be another huge game.
I think this might be my first foray into UEFI.
