Buying a new processor, need help!

I have no clue what the difference is between these processors except the price. Which one should i get and why? Thanks

I know the 3.0 GHZ is the best but which one is the best for my money.....

Probably the 2.8E, stay away from the other 2.8's as they lack HT. Of course its only 20 bucks or so for the 3.0.

You know if you don't mind buying used you could get a nice cool northwood that will be cheaper, cooler and have the same performance. I bought my current 2.4C for 62$ shipped of ebay

Any reason your not going with a Socket 775 processor? Either way it dosen't matter what you use. I agree on the 2.8E though. That would be a rather easy overclock to 3.0 if you wanted it and it would save you $20.

I have a 2.8c northwood that I often run at 3.5. Highest stable overclock so far is just shy of 3.6 on air with only one step up on voltage. I have seen quite of few of them on Ebay, not sure were else you can get one. I do know Newegg doesn't have one right now though, but one of the other major retailers might. If your going to stay with the 478 and plan on doing some overclocking its not a bad choice.

Really sorry to say this in the intel forum, but the Venice-core Athlon64 3500+ is $220, and should also overclock nicely. Will be better at games, but not as good at heavy multitasking. What do you want to do with your computer?

Not interested in AMD processor. My pentium 4 2.4ghz processor is on the way out thats why i'm looking for another one.

3.0E is actually really good once you start overclocking, look at my sig, depends on the motherboard I guess.

A 2.8 B is a northwood no HT

2.8A is prescott 533mhz no ht

If you are going to buy a Socket 478 chip buy a northwood C or a prescott E. It doesn't make any sense to get a chip without HT, unless all you do is game. And if thats the case, just buy Amd already.

I would buy a 2.8E over a 3.0E to save the 20$.

err i wouldnt spend too much money on a dead platform so id recommend as others hav pointed out a used northwood with HT and save the rest of ur money on a bigger upgrade
