recently one of my 2 5850 died, instead of buying a used 5850 for some more I can sell my other 5850 and by two XFX 6870 dual fan.

maybe pay some more for 2 6950?
I'm on eyefinity and plan on getting new gpu's in 6-8month once the 79xx has made prices drop.

6870's aren't very ideal for Eyefinity due to vram limitation. Your best bet is with 6950 2gb. Depending on the games you play, one 6950 2gb might be enough but get two if you need it.

I agree 2 6950's or 6970s should set you for the games coming. With all the vram thats going to be needed to load games.

but is 2gb enough for future eyefinity gaming, already now games take more than 1gb VRAM on single display setup.

My goal is to have two 6870 now and around feb/mars 2012 either buy two 69xx cheap or buy a expensive true 3-4gb card.

I remember couple of years ago everyone saying that the 58xx 2gb was a overkill for 10-25bucks more.
