Hey there,
i am about to build a new SB (i5 2500k) machine and as you might guess it should be a SFF setup preferably ITX based. Headroom for a little bit of overclocking would be nice to have. ( iam aiming for a moderate 4GHz)
Unfortunately the Zotac Z68 and the Asrock Z68 ITX boards got more or less significant problems. The former seems to lack overall stability when it comes to overclocking though i don`t know if they got that fixed through bios updates whereas the latter seems to have some heat problems within the VRM zone when you apply overclocking.
That leaves me a little bit confused because of course i want this little beauty to perform as fast as it can but on the other hand i won`t like to run into any stability problems to achieve that in a SFF case like the Q08.
The difficult part in getting all the appropriate parts together is for example how to know which CPU cooler fits into the Q08 without the need to modify anything on the case.
I guess the best you can do here is the AXP140 but its difficult to grab one of these cause they seem EOL. The Samuel 17 which seems to fit without any probs either doesn`t leave much headroom for overclocking.
Maybe you guys can lend me a hand. Currently i have the following cases on my radar
LianLi Q08
LianLi Q11
LianLi V353
LianLi V354
Does the ASRock Z68ITX heats up only when i apply some decent overclocking or is it already hot @ stock voltages and speed?
Thanks for all your help.
