Ok, we are constructing a computer with the specs below. We believe that everything is hooked in properly... when we try to boot up the computer, ALL the fans (including the 6800GT fan) turns for just a second... and stops. It does not completely boot up. We cant figure out the problem, because it seems like everything is plugged in right.

You need to be systematic when troubleshooting. Remove the RAM and try to boot, replug things etc until you get a different response. Just keep changing one thing at a time until you get somewhere. The fact that you are getting only a second of power could mean you are grounding out on the case, your mobo is bad, your cpu is bad, your psu is bad etc....

No one can pinpoint your problem based on that info.

we unplugged the video card, sound card, and cd drive... all we have plugged in now is the cpu, heatsink, motherboard, ram, and harddrive. when we try to boot, it is the exact same result. i doubt that we have bad parts because none of the parts are used. all are new...

we tried unplugging things and its still doing the same thing

It's a real pain in the ass to do, but you should take out the mobo and try again. If you don't feel comfortable running it outside of the case, remove it and put it back in. Something is definitely cutting your power off prematurely and the case is a likely culprit.

that makes sense... i'll look in the case's instruction manual and get back to you
