If you are interested in building a ITX case for a Via Epia from scratch according to certain specifications let me know...it will not be used for advertising or profit and full credit will be given to the designer. Compensation for labor and materials of course will be included. This is not a advertisement but rather a contest.

In the technical sense it will be an extremely small enclosure, enough to fit a HD, via epia mobo (which is around 7"x7" in), one 80mm fan, and a 110W power supply (around 5x4x3.5" in). Possibly enough room for an LCD. No need for a DVD drive. Choice of materials is up to you, but must show off the hardware inside (this probably will necessitate the use of acrylic) and include lighting. Cost of materials must be reasonable, i.e. no space age carbon fiber stuff. Looking for originality and a professional appearance. I'm not looking for a flashy, crazy, type of enclosure (such as the ones on mini-itx.com) but themes are encouraged. If you have an idea, submit it! The design I like the most will receive the cost of materials and labor once we agree on a final design and probable cost of this project. Upon completion, you'll receive an additional $25 prize!!! Of course, you will retain the right to use the design as you wish and we can display it on these forums! US members are preferred due to the fact that international shipping takes so long.

I hope that this doesn't appear as advertising, it isn't, the point of this contest is totally just for fun and to a chance to see some new designs for the ITX form factor, which I believe is totally lacking as far as the retail cases go.

What's the deadline? What do you want to see initially, drawings or a prototype?

I think three months from start to finish is reasonable, anything more will probably end up to be too exotic and too expensive. The sooner the better of course. No prototypes are necessary, just drawings and/or a CAD rendering, and a short description are fine. All ideas/designs will be kept confidential and will not be used in any form without permission from the author.

Finally, what is professional to you? A nice finish and good attention to detail, or should it need to blend well in an office setting?

Instead of calling it a "contest" (which, technically is not allowed), why don't you just come out and say that you are looking for someone to design and build you a case and that you are willing to pay them for their time?

Yes I thought someone would make a comment like that. Its because if that is what I wanted I would say so. If I wanted someone to design and build me a case I have several people in my area that could throw a few pieces of aluminum together for a fraction of the cost. Or I could build it myself as I have in the past with some of my other systems. But that would probably lead to a design that I could get off the shelf.

The second reason is that this project is not for personal use but rather the point of it is to showcase a design that will interest people that I know that are in the home theater/entertainment system market and would like to see how PCs can be intergrated into personal entertainment, yet stand out and appeal to a young market. So...that is what I meant by professional looking...at first glance looks like it could belong in a home theater setup but has that edge factor that draws attention. Neither I or they are making any money out of this by the way.

So I suppose you are right in that its not a "real" contest and if its not within the rules of the forum I apologize. But I think that I have made a case (pun intended) for this post and I think a few people at least will be interested.

I'd like to add that we're not going to use a design for commercial purposes, this is basically just for fun and to learn something. So in that sense I hope I am within the rules of the forum on advertising/profiting.

Cool case I got on ebay. Gotta find something to put in it.

I've got a mATX board case mod I was planning to do anyways. Does it have to be 7x7, or can it be 9x8.5" for proof of concept?

i was thinking of doing a case from scratch, but that would have been pretty labor intensive and costly

Didn't you build a case from scratch before? I could have sworn I saw your name to a cube of some sort.

Yea that size would be ok, are you going to try to mod the case in the pic?

Good article but too small for my uses, plus doesn't really show off the hardware. Steel is hard to work with too in terms of shaping it.
