build 1u server?

i been looking for some 1u servers on the market and wondered...
is it possible for a end-user to build a 1u server? ie just like us builiding our own desktop
 
yup...i've done a few...

mostly, i recommend using a barebones system like Celestica A2210s.

well, i am not looking for mega ultra powerful servers but something like
30gig hd, 512-1gb ram and around 2-2.5ghz cpu. raid might be nice
 
with the celestica and newisys barebones, you just add processor, memory, and hd's.

love 'em.

can you provide me with some links? i've googled the model and came up with many sites selling servers based on that barebone but couldnt find the barebone itself. thanks in advance

wow, they are expensive, i was looking at more like sub $1500 range..but thanks for the link. i really appreciate it.
 
my friend built himself a really nice 2u server. its entirely possible to build a 1u.

just realize the case with psu is gonna be a lot, you have to do some cable oragami, and you only get to put 1 or 2 cards into the riser.

some of the more expensive 1us MAY be found at www.enlight.com (dint check)
 
2Us are wicked easy to build. however, 1U's are not...the barebone idea is great because it takes care of some of the major components that go into designing a 1U server.

also, it may SEEM wicked expensive, but...that's just 'cos you've not got my pricing... :cool:
