Has anyone found an recent news on the Broadwell desktop release date. Everything I find is about Broadwell M or Skylake. Been trying to hold out for an i5 or entry i7 Broadwell chip hoping to be able to time it with the Nvidia gtx 970 release for my next PC. Thanks!

Q2 2015 is what the latest rumours have said (articles written ~5 September)

I'm still unclear about Intel's plans to release Skylake alongside Broadwell. Won't releasing Skylake cannibalize some of their Broadwell profits? I understand their desire to push out Skylake to keep their 2 year cycle going, but it seems to me that there will be no benefit to purchasing a Broadwell chip over Skylake (unless one won't need to upgrade their motherboard for the former if they have Haswell).

Any ideas on this? Will these two products have sufficient marget segmentation or is Intel going to be sacrificing some profits by releasing both chips during the same timeframe?

Interesting question.
Will we see broadwell and skylake mainstream?
When will we see broadwell-e or skylake-e?

Those are good questions as well. I'd like to see a current timeline for the release of all of these (especially the E processors).

The only thing I can think of is that Intel will release Skylake mobile processors and other embedded Skylake product lines while Broadwell desktop is released and then move to release Skylake desktop versions sometime in early 2016?

I'm assuming we'll see Cannonlake start to make an appearance in late 2016. Broadwell-E would probably get released around a year from now (I'm just guessing here).

So we should be two year distant from skylake-e.
Right?

From everything I've scanned that is most recent, Broadwell-E appears to be Q4 '15 so I would expect Skylake-E to be Q3 or Q4 2016 -- so yes.

Ok, I'm really curious to see what PCIe gen4 will bring.
What processor will be the first to support USB 3.1?

No one talks about USB 3.1 when talking about broadwell or skylake.
Who will support USB 3.1 natively?

Remember that broadwell has already been launched (but not the chip you are thinking about). I am talking about the announcement of the ~4W TDP 14nm broadwell chip that will be used in tablets.. The Skylake variant of this chip should be announced in Q3 or Q4 of 2015. In both cases the mainstream will follow about 6 months later.

It's strange that Skylake-E is only 2 years distant.
A tick-tock stage usually requires 3 years.

From SandyBridge Tock, to Haswell Tock 3 years passed.
The HEDT platform generally require a year more.

From SandyBridge Tock, to Haswell-E 4 years passed.

Why SkyLake-E should be release in two years?
Two years, are two years less than what Intel used to do.

Makes no sense why Broadwell wouldn't be coming around Christmas if Skylake isn't coming until 2H of 2015. Since it's a die shrink a motherboard for a Haswell refresh won't support Broadwell I assume? Also I have no use for Haswell-E and the expensive ddr4.

People first of all, broadwell its just a haswell refresh at 14nm and it will fwork with Z97/H87 boards and broadwell will be only for high end CPU and i7 mainstream.. so from i5 and below not refresh, and as far i know the delay its not too long, Q1 2015 for mainstream LGA1150, sockets rPGA 947 and BGA 1364 and Q2-Q3 for X99 2011v-3...

Broke down and bought a i5-4690k for 195$ free ship at Tigerdirect. To good of a deal to pass up since I don't have a Microcenter in my area. Now to wait for the GTX 960's or 970's to come in October hopefully.
