I ordered a laptop, and it arrived with the screen in this condition. It's a 14.1" WXGA+ 1440x900 screen. There is a bright spot in the lower left hand corner, and random streaks/lines in the lower center portion of the screen. The rest of the panel appears dim and lackluster. Is this LCD damaged beyond repair? I submitted a RMA already, but I'm wondering whether there is anything I can do to remedy this myself.

One thing to try, is make a white graphic and a black graphic. Now you should have completely white image and a completely black image, start a slide show make sure its running continuously and let that go on with with monitor on for several hours. Might help a little

I remember using a different tutorial, but here is one SIMILAR:

Thanks for the suggestion-I'll run a slideshow overnight and report back.

I'm very interested to hear back from you, for me with the 37" Westinghouse, the legendary LVM-37w3 :)

after a few applications of this method for several hours at a time, it did clear up my screen

Ran it overnight, but didn't have any effect. I'm almost positive that there is physical damage done to the LCD.
