I want to put a breathalyzer that won't let me log into my computer if its over a certain amount. Or maybe just disable e-mail and IM applicatons. Any of you ever do this. Any ideas how I can slap this bad boy on? It's been done on cars!
 
too much drunk IMing?

look for a car start breathalyzer and hook up a relay to you mobo power switch.

sounds like a very unique case mod. Sounds like a fun idea to sport at LAN parties and cons. Maybe even reverse the idea so you can't get on unless you are drunk enough? aw crap still can't play BF2, im not drunk enough! =P

Seriously though, you'll need a breathalyser, some soldering skills, and maybe even a small amount of programming experience.
Take the chip from the breathalyser, and re-program it so that when you blow under a set amount, the PSU is turned on, and therefore the PC. So, you'll have to somehow connect the breathalyser circuitry with the PSU wires.
Yeah, don't ask me how. Guys in the Electronics forum might be able to help you more with that.

shouldn't you hook the circuits up to the power jumper on the mobo instead? the PSU is always on, it's the jumper on the mobo that actually starts up the computer.
 
I really like your idea. Quite novel.

A breatalyzer for around ~$50ish that wouldn't look *tooo* out of place with an aluminum case.

I have no idea exactly how the internals of this device work, but it's small and looks reasonable. There's gotta be some device that reads the alcohol content in your breath and adds resistance to a circuit that is measured. I'm sure all you would want to do is piggyback off of that sensor.

Another interesting fold you could take with this would be a police style paint job on your case and add some blue and red flashing LED's. I can just see it now.... "POLICE DWI TASK FORCE" Could be quite an interesting mod.

FYI: I have not ever purchased from the vendor linked above. Please use caution when buying from *anyone* that you're not familiar with.

Prolly be easier to find a way to hook it up via USB or something. Then code a program to disable yoru computer if your drunk. Sounds like that would be easier than trying to hook it to your psu or mobo.....

You would prolly want to go with an older breathalizer.. The ones that only have 2 lights as a readout. One red( your drunk) and one green(your not).. Alot easier mod.. Just rewire so the output for the green light powers the relay for powering on the comp..
 
Hmm do breathalizers have a led or something that turns on when you are >_<
If so you can probably wire that up to trigger the power switch...
A better thing might be to let you use the computer and make your LAN cable alcolhol enhanced... Again if it has a LED to show that you are drunk then go to electronics forum and they can invent something cool O_O maybe to switch a line for the lan on or something fun.
