What do you guys recommend for cloning of boxen?

I've been looking at Acronis TrueImage. Create a master image to an external HDD. Then do restores from that HDD. With TI, can you change the machine name as part of the restore? About the only thing I would need to do is then change the Statis IP Address. If using Windows, how do you change the CD Code for the new boxen?

Are there better packages out there?

If wanted to go Ubuntu, is there a similar software package?
 
I use acronis True Image at the house on my Vista machine, and I like it pretty well. Never had any issues with creating or restoring an image, but I just use it on the one machine. As far as changing the computer name, you would have to do that once the image was restored. Just keep the box offline until it booted, change the name and/or static ip address and then reboot it, putting it on the network at that time. If its a DHCP setup, you only have to change the name.

Sounds like what I need. The only real concern I have is with licensing on Windows. I assume you have to put in the CD key at some point.

Does Acronis TrueImage have a boot CD that you could use to boot to, have access to an external drive, and then do the restore? I'm thinking the image may be larger than the size of a DVD with everything loaded onto it and I believe (rather, I HOPE) it would be easier/faster to restore from an external drive.

I guess I could install Windows on a clean box, get everything I need on it and then create the image.
When I restore the image, I change the machine name, static IP address and then activate Windows with the CD Key associated with that box.

 
With Vista, I think you have a option to enter a new product key so you can change it. However, it's easier to clone it before it's activated then when it's done, activate with the right key.
