Boot from SATA Card?

Okay, this post will forever tarnish me in the [H], but it is something I must do.

So, I'm building this computer, right? Everything is going fine, untill i realize that this board doesn't have a SATA interface, and the client is very firm in wanting SATA. Why? Not enitrly sure, buttt whatever. Learned a little lesson from that one, dont order parts when you are tired.

So, I order this card, thinking that it will fix things. Nope. Now, when i boot up, it detects the drive fine, but then goes to a screen that says, and i quote, "PRESS ANY KEY TO REBOOT".

Um...yeah. Help?
 
....does the card manufacturer say this card is supported as a bootable device?

I'll bet some are, and some aren't depending on the software on the card / MoBo BIOS.......

Ok if your having problems booting from a system with a boot rom then your first must do a couple of things.

In your Bios Tell the system to boot from a PCI SCSI card (Don't Ask). Then tell your machine to priotise booting from 3rd part add in cards.

Then in your Boot rom ( On the Card) Tell the boot rom to what disk is the primary boot device.(Even if there is only one boot device).

Then Install Winows. remembering to add the MSD drviers when asked. (Press F6 when prompted).

Edit :\\ That Card seems to have a boot-rom so it should support booting.
 
I already set it to boot as a SCSI, but it wont let me install windows, after the POST it goes straight to a "PRESS ANY KEY" screen.

When i go into the Card bios, it doesnt have a place to choose the primary boot device. Only if i want to create a RAID, set the RAID type, or reformat the disk. As of now, its in the primary spot, and being detected by the card.
 
For installing windows, you need to have the primary boot device set to CD-ROM. ;)

Set the secondary boot device to SCSI, and then when the Windows installation screen pops up, it will prompt you to hit F6 to install third party drivers. You MUST do this or Windows will not install properly, or if it does, it won't boot.
 
How can i access the bootrom? Gah. Frustrating thing.

CD
SCSI
IDE Hard Drive- Disabled
Removable Media

Something wrong there?
 
A lot of addon cards don't allow you to access the Bootrom. They will automatically detect the drives and only boot from the first drive.

Remember to hit F6 when booting into Windows using the Windows CD, and load the driver for your card. If you don't load the driver, Windows will not see the drive.
 
The thing is, it never goes to an installing windows screen. Its right after the POST,, it goes to this black screen. The disk drive DOES seem to spin, though, if that means anything.
 
I am having the same problem using a Adaptec 1210SA which does support bootable drives. I already built the RAID 1 array and installed windows. I choose SCSI as the first boot device and after it goes by the RAID BIOS it goes to a black screen and stays.
