I was working on my toshiba lifebook yesterday with the hard drive cover on the bottom of the pc off exposing the bottom of the hard drive to the table. A bottle of rubbing alcohol spilled from an earlier project as i set the laptop on the table, and spread all over the bottom of my lifebook and on the table. Thinking that the rubbing alcohol was non-conductive and not so harmful to my components, I wiped off as much as i could from the bottom of the hdd and the lifebook. However, when I turned it on I was greeted with the error "no operating system found". Well after rebooting a few times I was able to get into windows but everything was 100 times slower than it should have been. An hour later of trying to boot back into windows I realized that the rubbing alcohol said 70% isoprophyl alcohol, and the ingredients had water. Worse, there was still liquid slowly dripping out the bottom of the hd. It turned out that there was a foam sheet between the hdd controller board and the acual drive that absorbed the alcohol and when I removed the board I noticed corrosion on more than a few spots. So I tried cleaning that off but still didn't have any luck. I can still boot the pc off a livecd or other hd so the pc is still ok.

silly me didn't back up my documents so I'd like to find a hard drive to swap boards with.
So Here's my question: Do I need to find an drive with an identical model number(Toshiba Model MK2018GAP, HDD2164 ) or does it need to match the board version(013 B0/M1.42A) as well. Will other revision boards from the same model work?
 
You'd have to match the board revision as well. Small firmware changes can cause big on-disk format changes.
