I have a friend who has a 6950. He keeps crashing in BF3 and when he does, his desktop looks like this: http://ckwbf3.com/images/ss3.jpg

It doesn't really look like artifacting to me. What do you guys think about it?

Edit: Just got the full story of what's been happening. BF3 locks up and makes a weird noise then after a little bit, it closes and says "Battlefield 3 has stopped working". Once it goes back to the desktop, his browser looks like that and he has to restart his computer.

I had a very similar (if not the same) problem. I would get a garbled chirpy noise and a crash to desktop. When I got to desktop, my chrome window would look like it was artifacting, but only in the browser.

My problem has since vanished as a result of a series of adjustments. Here is what I did:

-Increased the voltage slightly on my CPU 1.42-1.44 (this seemed to lessen the crash significantly, but not eliminate it. oddly I was 9 hours Prime95 stable before)
-Disabled all EAX and audio processing settings in my X-Fi control panel
-Reverted back to 11.10 catalyst driver from 11.11b.

That sums up what I did to eliminate the problem. I can't guarantee it will work for your friend, but it's worth a shot. A bit more detail about his rig would be helpful too.

His rig
CPU: AMD 1090T
Mobo: Asus M5A97
GPU: Sapphire 6950
Sound: Realtek 887
Ram: 4x4gb GSkill 1866mhz

He just reformatted the other day. He previously was using an x-fi fatality xtremegamer before the format and he had the same issue.

Think we may have found his problem. I had him check his clocks in game, and with the 11.11b drivers, his card is running at 450mhz in game. I would imagine that is why he is crashing. I am going to have him revert to 11.10s and see if it still does it.
