So I'm currently using an Asus P7P55D (socket 1156) with the Core i5 750. Now that Sandy Bridge is out, is the i7 880 the best I can upgrade with for this system? Or will Intel release new 1156 processors?

prob yeah they might drop a i7 880 with 32nm process later on but for most part wat ya got is all you'll ever get.

Pretty sure there won't be any newer faster CPUs for that platform even the 880 seems hard to find (newegg don't list it and neither does google shopping).

The 2500K is probablly a better bet. Performance is better in most cases and while the cost of a 2500K+board will likely be a little higher than a plain CPU upgrade it will leave you with a board+CPU combo to demote or sell rather than just a CPU.

Plus while nothing is positively concerned current indications say that if you upgrade to sandy bridge now you should be able to upgrade to ivy bridge on the same motherboard.

try and score a x3470 on ebay for 139 dollars like i did :p

In all honesty I don't think you'll see significant gains but in reality you should probably sell now while you can still get some residual value out of 1156 and move up to 1155.

I'd say that Sandy bridge is NOT perfect and if you don't care too much about resale value then it's probably best to stay and put the money somewhere else.

if the picture was inverted say.. a gameboy box with a psp in it.. then it'd make more sense in my case. My processor was indeed a x3470 but was labeled as a core i5 on the auction page.

so it is a core I5.

You are not supposed to upgrade anything. Better wait for Ivy Bridge to make it a worthy one.
