I am going to order a zalman ZF700 cooloer for my 6800GT, should I also order some extra compound?

What are you guys getting for temps on your 6800GT, how far did it allow you to overclock?
 
I used AS5 in combination with eVGA's solid copper heatsink for the 6800GT series. Idle temps range from 43 in the winter to 51 or so in the summer. About 67 to 75 under load. I had it oc'ed to 400/1100 but have backed off because of some stability issues. I think it might have to do with my Antec 430W Cpu not being powerful enough to OC both my CPU and vid card at the same time. Ocing to that range only give it about 2-3 more FPS anyways.
 
I used AS5 to keep my 9700p cool, but I've heard that Arctic Cooling's MX-1 might be better since it is non-conductive, I'm going to order some the next chance I get to find out.

Supposedly you don't have to reapply it every few months, like AS5, so that alone is worth it to me to investigate it.
 
I used Ceramique on the GPU and RAM on my 6800nu. Have never liked AS5 personally,
and Ceramique works near as well in most all situations. Sometimes better.

AS5 is mildly capacitive not conductive. Anyway, it can be used on RAM in the 6800 cards
since the chips are not the type with exposed legs.

crapola.. as5 has to be reapplied every few months? I didn't know that.. what happens to it if you don't?
 
no, it doesn't decay, it lasts for a long time, around the 2 year range performance will be lower, i really will never have mine on for that long without switching something out anyway

Ahh. thats fine then.. my upgrade cycle is about 12-15 months so I'll be covered.
 
I've worked with all kinds of Thermal Pastes and Pads and my favored would have to be anything that's Arctic Silver, perferably their "new" AS5.
 
Arctic Ceramique would be best to use on a video card, especially for the RAM. Its alot cheaper then AS5 and performs nearly the same.

I use Ceramique on my Sempron and it's great.
 
I use ceramique. Everything I've read indicated that Ceramique is better than AS5. I use both and have started to use ceramique exclusively because it's easier to clean.
