I have a socket 2011 board with a 3930k cpu and a HUGE ass hsf on it. I think its a ninja scythe, forget.

Are there any really good MUCH smaller hsf out there?

I currently have it overclocked to 4.4ghz with no issues the past 2 years.

I can only think in a noctua NH-U14S and thermalright TRUE Spirit 140, you can't really think in small cooler with a OC'd 3930K...

What Araxie said.

Why do you want a smaller cooler? Are you putting system in a smaller case or something?

Having problems fitting In my new 390x video card, its off by just a smidge because of the huge hsf.

My old titan fit just barely.

It's not small, but the NH-D15S is offset so it doesn't intrude on the first PCIe slot if that is the issue you are having. There are a few others out there that do this as well... I think it's more of something that HSF manufacturers have done in the past year or so.

Okay, so what case, mobo and RAM do you have? Also, where are you located? I have a pretty good database for figuring out what coolers will fit. ;)

Thermalright have some good offset base coolers for better PCIe socket clearance. TRUE Spirit 140 rev.A is quite good .. as good as NH-D14 so among the best.

I have a coolermaster HAF 932 case, Asrock X79 Extreme4 2011 motherboard and 8x 4GB gskill ripjaw 1866MHz ram.

I need the 390x to play divinity original sin.

172.1mm CPU clearance
76mm from center CPU to near side of PCIe socket and 52mm to near side of RAM socket
Ripjaws are 40mm
This leaves 35mm from CPU to bottom of finpack and 137mm fan clearance above RAM.

Suggestions depend on location and budget. Cooler prices and availability vary depending on location.

Aha, its also the damn power plug that goes into the motherboard that's too close to the pcie slot the video card goes in. Guess the older gtx titan was a bit slimmer on the backside than this 390x.

Any harm in plugging the video card into the second pcie slot?

Generally this won't be a problem, but it ultimately comes down to the PCIe slot layout of your motherboard. The slot needs to be at least 8x, and needs to be CPU lanes as opposed to lanes from the PCH. In most motherboards, this will be the case, but it's not a guarantee.

My motherboard.

I used the 2nd PCIe x16 slot on a Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 without issue as an anecdotal datapoint. I would think with x79 and its extra PCIe lanes that they should all be coming from the CPU unless there is a multiplexing chip (or a lot of PCIe x16 slots).

I would try it and see, but it should be fine.
