Im on a tight budget and dont want to spend over ~$220 on a gig of ram which i intend to OC.. I have a few selected but i'm not sure which one is the best bang for the buck and can do really well in OCing.

Should I go pc2700 or pc3200?

Mushkin 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-2700 Level II Dual Pack - Retail -$175

Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series, (Twin Pack) 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 - Retail -$207

2x Corsair CMX512-3200C2PT 512MB DDR400 PC3200 XMS Memory w/Silver Heat Spreader Retail -$210

Maybe there are others I may not have mentioned which perform better, any suggestions, or comments?

edit: system specs:

The mushkin link he listed is for pc2700.

The Twin pack from Newegg would be the better of your other two choices, they're guaranteed to be compatible with each other. They more than likely carry winbond CH-5 chips onboard which leads me to another idea... Buffalo pc3200 winbond CH-5 memory It'll prolly oc just as good as that particualr corsair you pointed out and would come out over $40 cheaper. Before anybody starts screaming "generic", take a gander in other forums to see how well this memory works. Example: O/C Memory forum recommends this ram all day long.

Edit: I was only listing an alternate to his "less than best" memory selection he had listed. For the "best memory", anyone would concede that mushkin carries the best pc3200 http://www.mushkin.com/epages/Mushkin.storefront/40183308003ac4ba2740c0a8010205be/Catalog/5403

There have been plenty of threads here about problems with Buffalo memory. For some, it works great, for othes, it does not. I personally would get teh mushkin and not worry about it, you've got a warranty above all others, and they will stand by it.

No.

OCZ is shit. They've yet to repair their reputation, IMHO, and even pulled more shit recently... They lie, cheat, and have shit for service.

I will never, ever, buy OCZ anything. I'd rather have generic. At least then you get what you pay for.

Get the Corsair.

If you want the best memory then its definately Mushkin.

Ither get the Mushkin LVL 2 PC2700 or Mushkin LVL 1 PC3200.

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...146-290&catalog=147&manufactory=BROWSE&depa=1

As long as they have BH-5 chips it doesn't matter if its only PC2700. BH-5 is 5ns = 200MHz. BH-5 chips are alot more overclockable then the CH-5 chips found on Corsair and the Mushkin LVL 1. LVL 1 uses CH-5 so you might as well get it or the corsair because they will both perform relatively the same.

Mushkin makes the best PCB's in the business.

id definetly go for the mushkin. i have the pc3500 lvl 2 running and its great no problems with it at all

prolly the CH5 compatibility issue, which would include corsair and kingston (kingston's got to sound familiar) Buffalo and ch-5 inparticular thrives in amd socket A mobo's, now intel mobo's on the other hand can have issues with it.

I had no idea, if thats the case then i gets my full recommendation...

Supposedly Kingston HyperX pc3000 cas 2-2-2 uses winbond BH-5 chips Newegg has 512 megs @ $109 http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=20-144-106&depa=0
If you think about it it makes sense. Any other memory that runs pc2700/pc3000/pc3200/pc3500 @ cas 2-2-2 invariably uses BH-5. With Newegg, you're assured cas 2-2-2 (at pc3000 speeds cough) or your money back...

There are lots of nice RAM out there slaya lol. JUST PICK ONE!

As long as you get a quality brand like Mushkin, Corsair, Kingston you'll be fine. And if they have BH-5 chips they will overclock the best usually. AMD systems aren't to picky about CH-5 chips though so they work about as good. Some Intel boards are a little more picky like the Abit boards. They perform best with BH-5 RAM.

That Kingston HyperX PC3000 definately uses BH-5 chips to my knowledge because of it being rated 2-2-2-6. CH-5 can only do 2-3-2-5.

There were issues beyond that, I've browsed them in intel AND amd. I've just heard too many horror stories to buy them. Crucial/Corsair/Mushkin warranty > *.
