ECO Zotac 9800gt
If you look closely you will notice something unusualy about this card......no power connector.
So you dont need adaptors and cables and mess.
This also means that at most each card will use 75w(i think thats the pcie spec).
Can you imagine how much money that would save you a year, you would save enough each year to build a new folding box.

I realize you can get higher PPD with going with 3 260's or somthing...but I mean one of these that only use 75w would cost you approx $98 to run 24/7 for a whole year @0.15kwh

Really something to consider for a dedicated box.

also, with no external power, its odds of OCing are generaly lower

of course, each card is its own thing, but ya

Actually, arent those just rebranded 88's without the power plug? I dont think they are a new core or anything. But it is still argued that the 88GT is still the best value card (why Im building a 3card box right now) so ya, pretty much hit the nail on the head

Okay, now I just need to find where these are sold. They were announced a month and a half ago, now where are they?

Well, if it doesn't have a power connector, I've got to think it's a die shrink.

When you look at the specs on the web page it lists a 6 pin power, and the pic has solder points for it, just no actual connector.

It's a die shrink compared to the 8800GT/early 9800GT. Early cards were 65nm, current 9800GTs are 55nm.

ah, I see

actually, some cards have actually been made made to be used with power plugs, they just cut them out and lower the clocks, call it a server card or some junk like that, just read a review about OC'ing a 8600 I think it was, the guy PUT a power plug onto his card lol

PNY=FAIL
I hate PNY

Good for you. Like "zotac" is any better . I got a pair of PNY ram in another computer, works great. I had a good time w/ some Geil ram once, and a horrible time with another.

Good luck finding that zotac card from anywhere reputable right now.

I wasn't saying that PNY card was any good... just merely suggesting something basically the same thing to hold people over.

Dont be so sensitive

The reason I hate PNY is cause a buddy of mine bought two Quadro FX5800's they run about 4k ea.
When both are installed the system will not bootup, it just shutsdown. We determined that it was the video card drivers.
PNY would not help....it was like o well we already got your money.

So I refuse to give them my business.

Quadro FX5800's

When I first heard that I thought of this, but then I noticed the quadro part and was "oh". Problem with the highend segment is that very few people make them in the first place, and they're really expensive, and PNY not helping you is a problem. I feel sorry.

But with a little $100 card, doesn't really matter, but I see where you're coming from.

I imagine those would run pretty cool too, if they have no external power connector. That part would be nice in itself.
