I think performance is the same. I use 64-bit Ubuntu in VMWare.


 
Linux ........... :p

I dont think it make any difference which distro you install.
It all depends on which one you like and how much Linux you know.
I like CentOS-5.
Simple to configure when you install it and no addional libs needed to be installed/added to get the folding client to run.

I've been running Xubuntu in my VMs, but really all the linux distros should be relatively the same speed. The only real difference I guess would be how much RAM the distro needs to run, but honestly, most of them are pretty low anyway.
