So I just got my new sandybridge rig up and running a couple weeks ago, and I am currently looking for a monitor. Unfortunately, I had to sell my old monitor, an NEC EA231WMi, some while ago before I built this computer. So for now, I am stuck with some crappy old Acer 1680x1050 TN panel that I had around the house.

After having come from that NEC, even a low end IPS like it, I really can't stand TN panels any more. So I would like to get a new monitor, but I am unsure on what to buy.

I was pretty satisfied with my NEC before, but I would like to go to 1920x1200 resolution instead of 1080, if possible. My budget is around $400, so I know I won't be getting the best of the best, but I would like something at least comparable to the NEC.

I've been researching and reading quite a bit, and I have a few monitors tentatively picked out. The ones I am interested in right now are:

HP zr24w
DoubleSight DS- 245V
just going back to NEC EA231WMi (although again, I would much prefer 1200. So probably not. But the price is nice, under $300)
Factory refurbished HP LP2475w (Is this a bad idea?)

That is all I have come up with right now, so I am asking for suggestions. I suppose the U2410 could also be an option, although I'd probably be looking at used or at least refurbished to be within my budget.

Are refurbished monitors a bad idea? Are they going to be any better than just any other used monitor? I really have no idea, but the LP2475w seemed like a very good monitor, so I was curious if it would be a good idea. Thanks.

I just got myself a Dell ST2220T which will be arriving tomorrow, you might want to check that out. It costs $330 but there's discount coupons going around (I just bought it a few days ago for $230 thanks to an awesome %30 discount).

I would go with the HP ZR24W (standard gamut) which is right at your price point as that seems to be pretty popular around here. The HP LP2475w is wide gamut I believe. The DoubleSight DS-245V seems to be have a feeling of cheapness to it all around - http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1608920 (post #20 for first impressions + pics).

I have 2 of the NEC231WMI's that you used to have. Great monitors. I got another one that was a refurbished model from the NEC website for my girlfriends' father. I havn't seen his in person but he says it came in perfect shape and looks great. I can't attest to other brands but I would totally trust NEC refurb's and save some money on them.
