I reckon 30" IPS' without scaler are the best for gaming, so that leaves you the older models like the HP 3065 you mentioned and the LG W3000H.
Seems like the common consensus.
The Dell 3007WFP-HC only has one input vs. the HP's 3 so it seems like that is the best PC gaming option if you ever wanted to hook up a second computer.
I will look into the LG
NEC panels seem a lot more expnsive and have less infor out there about them for gaming.
The latest Samsung model 305T + has a scaler and input lag from what I have read around here and the older panel 305t is out of stock at newegg (otherwise it would be a good deal for $1000)
It looks like the samsung has a faster response time 6ms vs 12ms of the hp and is about $100 less everywhere... Maybe I don't need those extra DVI ins.. Any other gotchas with the samsung?
I don't want to buy $1100 monitor from ebay or some fly by night operation.. Seems too risky.
I have a 305t+ and I notice no input lag. People have blown this whole input lag thing way out of proportion. In fact, most console gamers game on tvs that have a bunch of video processing, scalers, etc, and you don't see them complaining about input lag. If you don't want the sparkle effect (antiglare) of the 30" ips panels and have better blacks, go with the samsung 305t.
I think the dell 3007-hc has less input lag 12ms if I'm not mistaken
which BTW is my monitor

And the only difference between the 305t and 305t+ is that the 305t+ is wide gamut and has hdcp.
That is good to know, thanks!
The 305t + doesn't have a scaler?
I've seen the dell 3007, apple 30", and the HP 30" monitors. None of them look as good as the Samsung display, partly due to their aggressive antiglare coating, and worse blacks.
I've owned every type of monitor H-IPS, S-IPS, TN panels, PVA. In my opinion, no panels looks as good as samsung's s-pva panels, so i really do prefer their monitors and even televisions to everything else. H-IPS panels are nice if you get below 30" because the 30" models have heavy antiglare coating.
I'm not sure if the 305t+ has a scaler as I haven't tried to run it at a lower resolution, but I notice no input lag, and is amazing for gaming. Basically, a bunch of people here just see the words "input lag" and go "OMFG NO i can't game on that," even though they've never even seen and tried the monitor (not that they really understand what input lag is in the first place).
Get which ever 30" monitors you'd like, but IMO, the samsung 305t+ has the best looking display out of any 30" monitor I've seen (hp, dell, apple).
Oh, btw, I've been getting A LOT more kills on this samsung monitor on tf2 than I was on my 26" planar h-ips panel (which is the best monitor for gaming in the 24-28" h-ips range and has much less "input lag" than the 305t). I've been probably doing a lot better because of the extra res, but as you can see, my gaming performance has not gone down with the samsung 305t+--it has gotten better.
I've had my 3008 for a couple of months and love it for everything from games and PC apps to HDTV and DVDs. The Samsung 305T is an excellent LCD, too. I might have chosen it if it had more than just a single DVI port.
