with an Pentium D 2.66 Ghz and $900 a case and a heatsink and a monitor, what would be the best computer you could built

Here is a suggestion:

Replace the PentiumD with this:
Intel E6300 w/ MSI P965-NEOF $319
http://www.clubit.com/product_system_detail.cfm?itemno=CUPG30001&nav=5#

2GB Corsair RAM $165
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145098

X1800GTO2 512MB $260
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=326850

LiteON DVD Burner w/ Lightscribe $33
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827106019

Masscool 460 Watt PSU $78
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817388003

Samsung 160GB SATA HD $61
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822152020

Total: $915 (little over)

Maybe get a cheaper video card like this eVGA 7900GT $211
http://www.chiefvalue.com/product/productdetails.aspx?submit=&item=14-130-049&ATTVideo Cards

so a soundcard can be added.

Well, considering the 7900GT is much more powerful than the X1800GTO, it would be better to get that card anyway.

I think he can probably skip out on the sound card though.

Switch to a x1800xt its a little faster than a 7900gt and is only $235 at newegg, I wouldnt get that PSU, I would go with a good FSP, Antec or enermax.

That would be a nice computer! I would stick with the Conroe Core 2. This seems like a very good system. I would recommend using what ever monitor you have now and upgrading it when you get the money. It might be a 1100 dollar system instead of a 900 but you will be much happier w/ this set-up.

the graphics card is important but not to my needs, e.g. i dont play FPS's sooo that rules out 200 graphics cards im thinking that 128, 256 for graphics is all i'll need, but i want to overclock the cpu so im gonna get the 2.66 pent. D, i know i cant get it to 4.1 but i want to try the sucker out

@Mouse, Think before you speak next time...

Any C2D is faster then any Pentium D even at 4.1Ghz....noobs...jessh

DO NOT get a pentium D. Every Core 2 is faster than a Pentium D. Listen to the guys up there.

a PD 805 at around 4.1GHz is a little faster than the EE965 at 3.73 in most tasks....while an overclocked E6300 is right around the X6800.

IMO, you'd be making a HUGE mistake if you went for the 805. an overclocked E6300 SPANKS the EE965 in everything.

I'm with stupid. /\ j/k

Seriously, get a 6300 + 965 motherboard & 7900GT.

IT WILL BLOW AWAY an overclocked 805. AND put out less heat at their max overclocks.

so which C2d is the best, taking in 2 account price and all that stuff, and whats the overclockability and a good Mobo

The GTO2 I linked too has 512MB RAM which is very helpful for higher resolutions. If the resolution will be 1280*1024 or 1600*1200 or less, I think the 7900GT would be a better buy. The PSU I linked to is known to be a very good unit for non SLi/Crossfire systems, better than the similar priced FSP, Antec, or Enermax units.
