Best AM2 HSF cooler?

Hey guys,

I just upgraded to a AM2 X2 3800+ from a S754 3400+ Newcastle. I had a XP120 with 120mm fan cooling my former 3400+ but now it seems that the mounting bracket for the AM2 socket is much different as the mounting holes are in difference positions. So I need something to keep this very cool under a lot of loads.

Since you guys are some hardcore PC hardware fanatics I'd like your advice on whats the best cooler for my CPU. I'm using a Gigabyte GA-M55PLUS-S3G motherboard.


Also, I'm getting idle temps on Core0 at 32C and about 22C on Core1, and load temps of about 44C on both when under heavy loads of work. Are these normal? running too hot? These temps are with the CPU overclocked to 2.36Ghz from the stock 2.0

Thermalright made a retension mechanism for AM2 so that you can use your heatsink. Check thermalright.com on the accessories page. It says it supports the XP-series.
