I searched the forums but didn't find a clear answer people are saying different things, whats the BEST air cooler?

TRUE is either the best, or damn close. Ultima90 is the 90mm fan version of it, but you can still put a 120mm fan on the Ultima90 and it'll perform within a few degrees of the TRUE. As for the Noctua, I have no idea... But if it's not available, it doesn't cool very well if you don't put it on your cpu... :D

Lapping is the process of flattening the surface of the heatsink and/or cpu (usually both) to ensure ideal mating of the surfaces. The TRUE and Ultima90 are purposefully given a slight convex surface to provide more pressure at the center of the cpu's heatspreader.

Intel doesn't create a perfectly flat surface for their heatspreaders either, apparently some are concave and others have a wave pattern of some kind.

Lapping kits are just a fancy way of saying a bunch of different grit pieces of sandpaper.

I bought a rosewill cooler and it holds my 45 nm at a low 30's at idle (flirts with 29 or 30 at times), and mid/high 40's at load, and I keep thinking to myself that I could have better, expecially at load. Keep in mind my room temperature is sometimes mid 70's.

What's a load temp to be proud about, on air?

I'm no expert, but based on the reviews I've read both the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme and the Tuniq Tower are both quality air-cooling solution and will run you about $60 a piece.

That's a complicated question. Which processor, how much of an overclock, how much voltage did you need for that overclock, what kind of case d'you have and what is the airflow capability of that case...

Having said that... I'm proud of my 50-55C Q6600 @ 3.6GHz 1.39V running loaded with 2 copies of Folding@Home SMP. It goes up to 58C with Prime95.

those thermo chill air coolers. there very loud but get the job done.

i found this http://www.anandtech.com/casecoolingpsus/showdoc.aspx?i=3268&p=7chart what you guys think Noctua seems the best on load 3.9ghz is this true? Were can i buy this cooler i dont see it on newegg. I found a thread about ocing Q6600 but its mixed on whats the best which one is it the noctua or TRUE, also this sounds very dumb but what is lapping or a lapping kit?

You can buy the Noctua NH-U12P from a bunch of places.

http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=27130&vpn=NH-U12P&manufacture=Noctua (for our Canadian friends)

I bought mine and additional fan for push-pull configuration from heatsinkfactory yesterday (shipped already) but just saw that they are now out of stock there.

120true and ultima90 dependent on case width + mobo when $$ not a factor.

Tuniq is $44 at the egg (not including shipping). Its cheaper now and works wonders. If you lap the tuniq, it'll help by 5-8 degrees.

I love me a TRUE120. Getting another one for my Q6600 set up.
