"Best" 5.1 System?

Right now I have my mind on a 5.1 system but cannot decide on the many choices... on my mind right now is the Creative Gigaworks 5.1. Any other suggestions guys? And please no Logitechs...
 
Well the best would be a set of 5.1 audiophile speakers hooked up to a nice reciever, like a Sunfire Ultimate. ;) Why no Logitech?
 
The reason for 'no Logitech' is just from reading a lot of bad reviews, such as their bass being overwhelming and i also dislike the idea of dual phase plugs. BTW could you send me a link of this Sunfire?
 
Woah...this would be good for my home theatre but im shopping for a computer audio system right now and not going too extreme with seperate receivers and such-- I would prefer a "box set" like that of the Creative Gigaworks. Thanks anyways. So any other suggestions for 5.1 Computer system thats not too pricey but not crap?
 
Lotta great reviews about the Gigaworks (though I don't like Creative). You might look into the Klipsch as well. Fact is, from computer manufacturers, these are the big three that make the "boxed" sets specifically for PC's.

As to tonality and the "best" that's just too subjective to call. Run to your nearest superstore and take a listen to see what you think.

Personally, I go with a receiver hooked up to home stereo speakers (low dollar, but there you go) and it's more than adequate for my tastes. Can't disturb the rest of the house, you know?



And may I just say, that is a helluva nice looking amp. NICE looking amp.

Well if i did follow your route; get a receiver and such, would i still need a sound card such as the Audigy 2 or would the optical out on the mobo be adequate?

Also, i live in Canada, so are there any suggestions for receiver + speakers set up?

My mobo is an old Asus 440ZX lol. So no, it does not have soundstorm. So would i still need a soundcard if i had a receiver?
 
hmmm, Audiotrack Prodigy 7.1 + Klipsch Ultra's. Or an Audigy 2 ZS; but that's just a matter of what counts more; music or games. Oh, and a nice set of cans.

General opinion is that the Audigy is better for games, and the Revolution is better for music.

Pretty much, except there's alot of separation if veer towards either camp. if you're into music and have high quality stuff, Revo hands down; if you're into games and want the absolute best then the Audigy 2 ZS hands down. If you're not a crazed fanatic about either (but enjoy music and games), pick whichever you lean to most, or whichever you do more. It can be a hard decision, lol.
 
Alright thanks guys. The Klipsch PM 5.1 looks nice and i've heard good reviews of the PM 2.1. So ill probably go with the Klipsch. And the audigy vs revo? Im not too sure about that yet, could anyone give me a link to the revo?
 
Logitech's are good u just have to get new cables to hook them up with. But since no logi's i go with klispe then

ok now for something useful, yes it is placebo because i tried it myself when i had the z680s. you also shouldnt get them for their desire to break randomly and often.
 
Any stores that sell the Klipsch 5.1 PM Ultra cheap in Canada? I've seen stores that sell them for $550 which is bull, so any reccomendations? (BTW I live in Vancouver, BC)

In your case I am tempted to believe you ... because you have actually been there done that.
In the other thread the person who stated it was all placebo could not even back up his argument with relevant facts let alone personal experience. :)
 
also using the decoder with the z680s isnt good because it make a loud screech when detecting the signal, such as when changing the chapter in a dvd. cant be good for the speakers. i did this with an optical cable. and then when you use the 6 channel direct, you're wasting the money on the decoder anyway. i guess its good for use with a ps2 or something like that but for pc its kind of pointless.

Can't go wrong with that.

But that Sunfire receiver looks sick...be great hooked up to my future Klipsch rf-7's :D
