Whats the best 4850 to buy? im not wanting to crossfire or anything, and kinda looking for one that exhausts air out the back of the case because I have a small lianli v350 case, or whats a good aftermarket cooler for it?

Not another "What is the best 4850" thread?!?!?!

Please do a search and read the previous posts on this topic prior to posting the exact same question for the 9999th time.

Anyway, they are all the same chipset but some have better stock coolers and such. As to performance, they have the same chip and clock speeds but as we well know, some overclock better than others and that is a matter of chance.

Otherwise, I would personally recommend VisionTek because of their lifetime warranty.
 
I'd wait and see what the XFX offerings will be like. I do like their cooler.

Palit has a 4850 that uses a shorter board than the reference design which I think is welcome. I believe visiontek is using short boards as well in their current revision. I use the first revision of the 4850 from visiontek (longer board) and it can be a bit of a pain because I also have 3 HDDs in my Antec Solo.
 
When the XFX ATI cards are released, I personally will not be buying any cards from the other ATI partners.

Unfortunately I think XFX knows a lot of people feel similarly, and there might be a serious premium on the cards. Especially once NewEgg sees them sell out instantly...
 
Yeah a shorter board seems like a good idea, and about the exhaust coolers any one make good ones for this card?
 
I own 8 x HIS 4850 ICEQ Turbo Video Cards.
All mine are used for Foldign@Home.
Since they stay at 100% load 24x7, cooling was a big issue for me.
I have had very good results from these cards.

I think any of the ICEQ HIS video cards are a good choice.
Temps are stay around 60C at 100% load & fans are very quiet.
 
I love how everybody in the thread says that the XFX has the best cooler.. yet the card isn't even on the market yet and there isn't a single review to back their opinions. It could be absolute trash for all we know.... but it still gets pinned as the "best" hd4850" because it looks nice.

Nothing against XFX, but this is a great example of why its sometimes best to just use google and avoid some of the fan boy bullshit that flys around in the videocard forum.

I love how Biskquik = everybody in the thread :rolleyes: I don't think that anyone else mentions about XFX has the best cooler.
 
I love how "like" = best.

It's aesthetically pleasing (to me). More than likely the dual slot design will exhaust air out of the case keeping the card cooler rather than the single slot reference cooler. Somehow, that's a bad thing? Excuse me for being optimistic.

Could their be some sort of drawback or backfiring that was unexpected from a review? I suppose. XFX has been in the video card business long enough to know what their customers want. I don't think they want to sour any deals with ATi.

And to be honest, what I like more are the shorter cards I mentioned before. The 4850 is too long for a midrange card and can be problematic fitting in smaller cases. I have about a half inch space in my Antec Solo using a reference visiontek card.
 
So the 4850, 4gb ram q6600, will do 1080p fine on a 46" lcd tv in hd movies/bluray and most games?(execpt crysis of course)
 
I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I was wondering if any of you know of a third party cooler I can use to replace the reference HSF on my ASUS HD4850s which has software controllable fan speeds (e.g., through CCC or RivaTuner).

If not, what's the best price:performance third party VGA HSF and how do you handle fan settings on idle and gaming?

It looks like the Thermalright HR-03 GT is a passive cooling solution (or rather, doesn't come with a fan). But the biggest problem is the size. I have only one slot's worth of space between my second HD4850 and the top of my PSU at the bottom of my Antec 900.

I wish I could just snag a couple of the Zalmans or IceQ4s available on the newer HD4850s.

Oh well. I might just get a couple of those quiet, static speed aftermarket HSFs and call it a day. I'd rather not have to fiddle with switches whenever I load a game up.

Also, anyone have experience with ZEROtherm GX815 Gamer Edition coolers? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835887009
These apparently have temperature sensing fan adjusters.
