I'm hunting for best 22" LCD for general use (I'm not a graphic artist or hard core gamer). Enticed by the new Samsung 226BW and "Vista Ready" LG 226WT 22 incher....do these truly offer substantial benefit for general user? Specs (3000:1 contrast, 2 ms response time) are impressive but suspect inflated or not relevant for most uses. Other options include Viewsonic 2235 (not HDCP but so what as I understand none of the 22's do true 1080p) or the new Dell E228WFP. My primary objective is to obtain best build quality, classy look on my desktop and reliable performance rendering internet pages, home photos,TV (+/- over the air HD), powerpoint and other business apps, and the occasional DVD.

Would like to keep under $350 as I'm already over budget with a new Core 2 Duo 6600 rig I'm configuring, but could spend a "bit" more (no pun intended re.: 6-bit with dithering vs. true 8 bit) if real world advantages to the newer, pricier offerings.

Recommendations appreciated.

The stand is fine, I even have a wheel and shifter clamped on to the table and it doesn't wobble. The only problem I had was a crappy DVI cable that newegg replaced free of charge.

You can go with the Samsung 225BW, less impressive on paper than the 226BW but even at 5ms there's no ghosting for games and the 2000:1 contrast is dynamic anyway (some adjustments they do during dark scenes) and not a true contrast rating for a monitor. Getting to the 2ms timing might create other issues, but haven't looked at that.

Save some $$$ unless there's another benefit from the 225BW other than just the numbers. The stand on the Samsung 225BW is great btw, nicely adjustable (and solid) and flat so you can fit your 5.1 center spreaker underneath if you have one.

Black frame (matt finish!), discreet lable and buttons make it look very classy if you have the same tastes.
