According to Reuters, BenQ is selling its camera division to Ability Enterprise for an undisclosed amount of money.

Taiwan's BenQ, which has struggled under the weight of a loss-making cell phone unit, said on Friday it is selling its digital camera business to Ability Enterprise as it sheds assets to raise cash. BenQ did not give a price for the sale of the unit, which includes both product development and manufacturing facilities.

So what divisions does that leave BenQ with? This is far from the first sale they've had in the past few years.

I believe they still have LCDs, but the optical drive division is gone IIRC, and there have been a few others as well.

Hmm.. Bad times over @ BenQ. They bankrupted then sold their cell division. Had, what, 5 Execs. get indited for backdating stock options? Now this. Well..

I do some photography to, with all my other interests.. and to be quite honest.. BenQ products never really showed up on my radar for photography. Maybe for the mainstream sectors, but still, there's some large giants in the camera industry, who've already been merging, taking over and competing against one another for some time.

Maybe this is a sign of BenQ coming back down to earth and sticking to making sold, affordable, products?
