I wanted to check some benchmarking numbers Iam getting with my current setup against some other members. Iam afraid my Raid0 WD 500 16meg drives are not performing the best they can.

Iam using SiSoft Sandra 2007 and running the Physical Disk Benchmark.

I Think I should be getting more than 87 MB/s. If you can share your benchmarks with me and if you use a different / better tool to bench mark storage with let me know what it is.

thanks,

I'll d/l it in a min...but I'm not running Rd 0 anymore...hmm...guess I can't help..used to run a Raid 0...now I'm safe..=)

According to Sandra you are running JBOD and not Raid0.. I don't know how accurate Sandra is at figuring out what type of array you have.. Those numbers seem perfectly right for jbod though..

My single 400gid WD gets 72 MB/s
I no longer have a Raid0 array, but they used to score in the 90-100 MB/s range..

Thx, I hope I don't have to install my system again to enable Raid0 for real on my motherboard. I didn't realize what JBOD was untill you mentioned it and I looked it up. I selected spanning in the award bios for my 680i. I think.. Well I'am gonna check it out once I get my backups done. I want it to be right.

A useful tool I found was (HDtach http://www.simplisoftware.com/Public/index.php?request=HdTach ) for HD benchmark.

I know the importance of having backups for this kind of setup. The WD 500gig Mybooks work well with a firewire 400 controller. I use them at work to backup our Corp Data. Right now Iam just using microsoft Synctoy here at home and copying my downloads to a 250 external. I hope I don't have to rebuild my system :( to have the HD running at the best performance settings.

As long as the raid controller drivers are already installed you should be able to just; image, stripe drives, and restore image..

As always, back up your important data first..

I dl'ed it, and installed it.

I run it, but nothing pops up...wtf

Dang, I tried to Image my C: drive, about 40gb used out of 99. Ghost 8 which I use all the time stops and HD stops reading. Blahhh. I'll figure it out.. thx

Well i had 2 X 160GB SATAII 8mb 7200RPM drives in RAID 0, if i remember correctly i use to get 120MB in RAID0, with 680i Sli Chipset.

I think it all depends on the chipset.

The controller does make a big difference in the test scores. For example for onboard RAID the Intel Matrix RAID always outscores NVIDIA's NVRAID and both of them typically beat Silicon Image or any of the other controllers typically integrated into the board.

Just to end this post, I now have my system setup with Stripping, not spanning. Iam such a goof. Anyway I was able to restore my ghost image of my C: drive which was around 41 gb in size. All is good. It booted in no time with True Raid0. My Sisoft Sandra Physical disk score went up from 86MB/s to 137MB/s. Now if I back my data up and not screw anything up I hope to run on this configuration for a long time.

Make sure you have some kind of backup. RAID 0 isn't redundant and take it from me, it really sucks when one of the drives in a RAID 0 array dies.
