I've got to decide between several overpriced models. Here they are:

APC SmartUPS 620 Tower ~600 NZD

Belkin F6C120auUNV,Universal Series UPS Serial & USB with AVR - 1200 + 150K warranty ~510 NZD

APC Back-UPS RS, 500VA ~400 NZD

I live in NZ now, and everything is marked way way way up, but I need a UPS.

www.ascent.co.nz has sent me one damaged Belkin of that model, but I don't know if it was Ascent or Belkin's fault so any input in that department would be very helpfull.
 
The spread on the RS and SmartUPS isn't very big..at least compared to USD retail prices, IIRC. In my experience with my SmartUPS 1000's (2U Rackmount) vs. a 1000VA RS is that the Smart's have roughtly twice the runtime...here, they also cost damn near 10 times as much :( The 1000VA smart UPS towers are ~800-1000 USD last time I prcied em, sometimes even more (rackmount are even higher) vs. $250 USD for the 1000VA RS.

I'm sure someone's gonna tell you Belkins are great...and they probably are. I still swear by APC..got loads of their gear and they've never done me wrong.

Main workstation has a pair of 1000VA Smart UPS rackmounts (one for the box, one for the monitors and peripherals)...keeps the whole setup up for 45-50 minutes until low battery warning.

Got a 1000VA RS on a 2nd box...single CPU, single monitor and the RM keeps it up for about 30 (with my network gear).

Got a 500VA basic-model on the HT/stereo rig...stiffens the power nicely for those big pass hits (no more dimming lights/popping breakers).

Got a couple other small ones other stuff around the house. I vote for the Smart 620 for that price spread. Otherwise, the belkin...the RS isn't worth that much.
 
The Back UPS RS 1000 is 500 USD here. :(

Also, the only Smart UPS thats not wildly overpriced is the 620VA one. I've got a P4E with 1GB of RAM and a 6800 running off a 550W PSU. Do you think that it will be too much, without the monitor, for that UPS? It says 390W.
 
I have both APC and Belkin. Both are fine and do what they are supposed to do :D
