I logged some "In-place Large FFT" prime tests below using Realtemp 3.40 with TJ Max of 100

My Case

The Tuniq blocks ~40% of my large 230mm side case fan.
Only one other intake at front and one exhaust at rear.
Debating about adding more.

I've been wanting to OC but unsure about temps. I feel like the max temps do not reflect such a low ambient temp.

Debating about a h50 (to not block side fan) or reseating (been ~2.5 years and have some mx-2 to try) or getting a new heatsink fan.

OR, if these temps are fine I will proceed with my first OC.

Your opinion?

IMO, idle 42-43C is hot even before OCing. Try to get a better heatsink. Scythe Mugen 2 is a beast if anyone is going to OC. Mine the idle temp is 40C after OC my i930 to 3.5. I used to have the zalman 97XX series oc the q9550 to 3.4 and the idle temp is 41C.

My Q9450 is pretty hot too. Even without much of an OC I was idling at around 40C-45C with a Hyper212+. After an OC and about 1.3V or so it idles between 46C-50C. Loads on IBT get up to mid high 70s. And I have reseated multiple times using different methods.

Thanks for the input. Not many q9450 users to talk to these days :)

After running about 5 minutes of small FFTs i hit max of 70/67/72/71 with cpu-z reading 1.296V @ 3.5Ghz and the fan on auto. Ambient is probably 21C or so? Higher max temps than I would like but I know they rarely get over lows 60s while gaming. I wouldn't worry about the high idle so much.

Don't think the temperature reading is accurate. With my Q9450 @ 3.8Ghz with 1.3vcore I am hitting 80c with a Corsair H70...just doesn't seem right with my ambient temperature in the low 20s. Rechecked my installation and everything seemed fine...

Thanks for the info.

I used In-place large FFTs. What is the

difference between these two types of tests and should I be testing with the small FFTs?

I'm not sure about this. I typically use the small FFTs but I don't know if this is better or not. I usually use intel burn test since it is quicker.

I think I'm going to remove my heatsink and check the thermal paste spread and maybe look into lapping or getting a different model so I don't block my side case fan.

Intel Data on the q9450.

It states a VID voltage range of 0.8500V-1.3625V. Are those values supposed to be read from the BIOS or CPU-Z?
