I have an X800 Pro and wold like to start voltmodding it overclock it more. Right now, I'm running 560/550 absolutely stable and artifact free. The core is at its limit. Anything over 565 will crash in 3dmark05. Memory can go to 570 stable but causes artifacts. Before I do any volt mods, I have a few questions: I will be using the pencil mod only.

1. What is the VDDQ voltage? I know what the others are?

2. Why do you have to take the video card out before modding?

3. Will increasing memory voltage create worse artifacting? If it runs stable at 570 but artifacts, doesn't that mean that it is probably because of heat issues? I have Tweakmonster ramsinks on them and they do get quite hot after a few hours of gaming

4. About the core, in my A8V bios, AGP voltage can only go up to 1.6V. Does this mean I can't go over that for the gpu core? My core temps are great. It doesn't go over 35C even after hours of gaming. It is cooled by a Maze4.

5. What are the overprotection voltages? At what voltages will it reset itself?

Since no one is reply to this, I have been looking for the answers myself.

Im in the same boat as you. I have a ATI X800 Pro Vivo with 1.6 Ram with 16 pipes. I flashed back to X800 Pro bios and my OC isnt as good. 16 pipes still enabled .

Q 1. I can run XT PE core fine again, but the ram seems to be limited to 525 core than gets artifacts. By switching down to a X800 Pro (lost my orginal bios) did that lower my voltage on the card?
A. Doubt it.

Q 2. I also am trying to learn what VDD and VDDQ means.
A. The VDD is for the memory and VDDQ is for the voltage to the memory Buffers.

Q 3. I only too want to pencil mod my card. By re flashing to XT PE bios will my voltage increase?
A. I dont think so.

Q 4. Is it also dangerous changing the voltage to the video card in the bios from 1.5V to 1.6V?
A. No real improvement. I heard it can help stablize high FSB pc's.

Q 5. Can I check the voltage current while the X800 is out of the pc with a multi meter?
A. Yes, The resistence in OHM's.

Q 6. Can I check the voltage with a program to download? So I can see the voltage while my pc is running.
A. Still unknown

Sorry for all the Q's. I'm not scared to mod or solder, but when it comes to measuring current with multi meter's I forget most of it since high school days :D

1A. It's the voltage to the ram buffer.

2A. Easier to do and no need to rush.

3A. More voltage will help stablize the Video card.

4A. Thats the AGP power. Only changing it to 1.6 seems to help high FSB's. And no, you can go past 1.6V on your core. Mine is running 1.5V AGP and im aimimg for 1.75V on the core.

5A. I forget the max voltage, but use this as a guide line (http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=194&page=1)

Max. safe voltages
VGPU
Stock: 1.31V - 1.41V
Air cooling: ~1.45V
Water cooling: ~1.7V
Phase change: ~1.85V

VDD
Stock: 1.95V - 2.05V
Active + Passive cooling: 2.45V

VDDQ
Stock: 2.04V - 2.10V
 
Thanks, I've started doing it do the core. I'm slowly raising it and testing. I do have another question. My VDD right now is at 1.990 and VDDQ is at 1.992 This is probably what keeps me from staying artifact free at 560 memory. My question is if I raise the VDD to higher than the VDDQ, what will happen?

I heard it would reset it self. For example I was reading it should say for example: VDD 2.08 and VDDQ 2.16. something along the lines making sure your VDD is always lower.
