Hi all,

So I recently bought a 9800xt on the E-bay. I got it used. Doh! Anyway at first it seemed fine until I started running some bench marks and it kept freezing. It seemed that card output to the monitor would simpy stop and the monitor would turn off. I have has a similer problem with an old 7500 so I thought it might be something with setup. So far I have tried the following.

Using a seperate power supply to power the card
Several versions of Catalyst and the Omega's.
Complete system reinstall
Running at agp 4x instead of 8x
Adjusting some of the card settings in control panel.

After the reinstall of the OS I made it through 3d Mark with a 17600. So I went to OC my cpu (I had turned it down prior to the reinstall) after that it began freezing again. So I turned it down again thinking the problem was from the OC. It continued to freeze. I ran omegas and it made it through 3d mark but stated that not enough tests were run. (although they were as I watched) -Had this happen B4 with 9700np. I finally loaded bfvn and it froze b4 I even got in game. I am thinking of RMA'ing the card but I am not sure on their policy of returning items bought through a 3rd party. Before I do this I am wondering if anyone has any ideas for other things I could try. I supose I should see if the issue lies with the motherboard.

Help, got a 60 man LAN this weekend!

You won't get your card back in time for the LAN.
Try upping your AGP voltage 0.1V

Try reseat the heatsink. It´s possible it´s not seated correctly if it was shipped poorly. But that would in theory void your warranty but I can´t imagine ATI really would complain about that but I don´t know really. My 9800 PRO just died on me and man am I happy I haven´t touched it ;)

Well I tried uping the voltage previously but I went up the full amount. This time I only went up 1 increment. Then I ran 3d mark twice back to back. I got me a 13500 down from 17600. Not that it matters at this point. Anyway I ramped up my OC to 211x11 and ran again. This time it locked. So I tunrned it back down and it locked yet again. Shut down the system and ran it this morning and it made it through. This time 3d mark wouldn't give a score. Anyway, it seems that my overclock has an effect on the card. I guess I will set it back to defaults and work it back up slowly benching as I go. I can't believe that this card requires me to reduce my overclock. It could be some kind of problem with my board and this card combined. Tonight I think I will try the card in another system.
