beeping hard drive

I just bought 3 new hard drives(sata) from newegg. All 3 drives were the Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 rpm 320 gb models. I was in the process of moving files from my old drives to the new ones. I had 2 of the new ones hooked up and I powered off my pc and hooked up 2 of the old ones(IDE). I have had 6 hard drives hooked up at once without a problem, so I figured everything would be ok. When I turned my pc back I heard a beeping noise and a clicking noise. The beep comes first, then the clicking noise sounds like the reader inside the hard drive is trying to turn but it can't. I can hear the hard drive turning though when I put it up to my ear. When I have the drive hooked up, it doesn't show up. It also makes my pc take a VERY long time to boot into windows. After about 10 minutes or so, the hard drive powers itself off.

I originally had this drive set up as my bootup drive, but I couldn't get it to bootup with my old hard drive that had the OS on it, so I had to boot off the old IDE drive. I needed the space, so I formatted the rest of the drive that was open(since windows cant format more than 130 gigs). After I was done with moving things onto the drive, I powered off and took the old IDE drive out because I figured I was done with it. I then boot up with the new drive, and it went to the windows loading screen for about 1 second, then it would come up with a blue screen saying I need to run chkdsk on the drive. I rebooted to see if it would go away, but it didn't. So I got the IDE drive back out and deleted the partition I had made on the new drive to see if that would fix my problem. It didn't. So I installed XP on one of the other drives. I then installed the software I needed for my adaptec sata controller so I could hook up the original SATA drive I was going to use as bootup(the one that is broken). I hooked up the drive, everything seemed fine and that brings me to where I was speaking of in the first paragraph.

now the hard drive is making a loud humming noise and the beep comes in like every 10 seconds. And the smaller chip on the bottom of the hard drive heats up extremely fast and gets VERY hot.

Run the SeaTools program from a bootable ISO from Seagate's website, proceed to RMA to Seagate. The explanation for what happened is in the first sentence of your first post.

Don't buy hard drives on Newegg, you'll be sorry.

Clicking from harrdrive is never a good sign. Even if the harddrives eventually boots, I would still return or exchange them.

I am going to probably have to RMA it, but I have some important files on there that I do not wish anyone to get a hold of and I have read that company works do snooping. I cannot get the hard drive to show up in my bios and definetely not in windows. I really do not want this data out, and I am even thinking of just purchasing a new hard drive and trying to forget about this one being broken .

use dban to erase the drive then. if it does not, then "forgetting" the drive was broken would be your best option if you are that sensitive to the data.
