Edit: If you can answer any of these questions, please feel free, don't feel like you have to address everything I ask.

I just put together a new rig, and for the first time in my life, I have a system capable of serious overclocking. I have a lot of questions, predictably.

First off, here's the build:

Athlon 3700+ (939)
2x1gb Crucial Ballistix PC4000
DFI Lanparty nF4 Ultra-D
BFG 7600GT

I was looking at this thread, but it seems tailored more towards someone trying to get a board to boot with troublesome memory.

I'd like to have something like that though. I don't need that much help with the principles of overclocking, I know how to determine the maximum speed of my ram/mobo/CPU. I'm looking for options that I should have turned on or off to begin with in the bios. here's a link to images of all the bios screens on my board: http://www.angrygames.com/nf4-bios1.htm

Also, knowing the approximate maximum temperatures and voltages for my processor/ram/motherboard would be really handy. Right now my cpu is running rather hot (45+ at rest) because I couldn't find my tube of AS5 and am using some shitty paste in the mean time, with the original heatsink no less. obviously, I won't be OC'ing the processor much til I get that resolved, but assuming safe temps, what is the max voltage my chip can handle? Same with my ram and chipset voltages. I'm looking for fairly conservative numbers, as I can't afford to replace parts left and right.

Also, what is difference between vcore and VID? vcore is the voltage, and VID is... raising the vcore by a certain percentage? A little clarification would help.

Also, how much of a difference can the 4th number in memory timings make? I've forgotten its name, but I mean the 8 in 3-3-3-8. my pc4000 is running 3-3-3-7 at 200 fsb right now and is rated 3-4-4-8 at 250. I intend to keep the timings at 3-3-3 and run a divider if I have to, but will changing the last number make a significant impact in any situations?

Also, I can provide newegg links to my parts if that would help.

TL;DR:

What are the maximum safe temps and voltages for my components?
Are there any crucial bios settings to set before I start overclocking?

If there's any additional info needed to answer a question just ask for it. thanks!
