Okay, so as laid out by this thread my overclocking attempt proved to be expensive
(I needed a new drive anyways)
ANYWAYS, what seems to have caused my drive to fail is setting my fsb too high for my ata 66 drives to handle. I tested on another shitty old drive and found the point where the drives start writing garbage is when the fsb is set to anything over 160-165mhz. I'll probably try to salvage my files off these drives later.
So comes the question: can I continue overclocking using higher multiplier values, but leaving the fsb setting alone? ie. is fsb clock the only setting that will determine how much data is getting crammed through the pci bus, or do multipliers/ram speed/etc have the same destructive effect on ata 66 drives?
FYI I did manage to get the fsb to 160mhz (from 133) and maintain stable disk operation. I haven't touched multiplier or ram settings yet though.
