ok well, i have a stupid Volcano Smart and Silent 9 on full blast at like 4800 rpm (way too loud) and it gets good at idle around 111F. well i decided to play around, i put the fan controller on and i lowered it to 3000 rpm, same thing. 111F.

so i slapped on the stock AMD heatsink and fan and it was around 125F , took off the old amd fan and put on the 80mm fan that came with the Volcano 9 and it's at 109F...

why? is the Volcano 9 heatsink crap? i know it's got thicker and less fins.. but..

anyone recomend a nice quiet but good heatsink and fan thats not too expensive? i wanna try and stay around these temps or lower. oh, and no water cooling.. already tried that and fried everything. thanks

In a word: Absolutecrap
I had one that killed a pair of 1700+, due to the thermisistor shorting out on the core, and also chipped a 1.33 t-bird with one too. Never was satisfied with the noise compared to the lackluster performance.
