Barton 2500+@3200+ temperature

I have a Barton 2500+ (1.83GHz) @ 3200+ (2.2GHz) with 1.67 core voltage and with my aftermarket heatsink (It was one of the best reviewed thermaltakes a little over a year ago) and a stock case fan (very shitty), my idle temperature is at 50-51c. With my gigantic Tornado fan (5000rpm of fury), my idle temp's are at 42-43c. My motherboard is a Giga-Byte GA7N400Pro2. My friend is saying that these temperatures are way too high, but he is comparing it to his old P4 system which I don't think is an accurate comparison. Can anyone who knows anything about the Barton and overclocking shed some light on this?

The reason it is bothering me is because not too long ago, with the stock case fan, I noticed my IDLE temps spiking to around 70c, so I cleaned out all the dust and whatnot, and the temps shot down to 50c but slowly creeped up to 60c. Thats when I re-applied some AS3 and now the temps are at 50c (case fan), 43c (Tornado).

My ram is Corsair XMS 2-3-3-6 512mb if that matters at all.

if it is prime and game stable, then it's okay for the short term.

it will most likely last at those temps for it's usefull lifetime, at such low voltages.

if you had a better heatsink then you would have much lower temps, and longer life.

regular cleaning, at least every month, is essential to maintaining decent temps while overclocking on air.

AS ceramique or AS 5 would probably lower your temps by a few degrees, but nothing to write home about.

let the people who don't clean their cases that often flame away to their hearts content.

Cooling is a 8045 Alpha Pal with a 68cfm delta screamer fan. My temps average 38c-45c
 
i had a question what voltage should i run to get 2.2ghz on a 2500+ barton. i tried to up my voltage to 1.7 to get 2.2ghz it wouldnt boot. should i just run 1.675 to get the 2.2ghz cause im gettin 2.1ghz on 1.675v
 
About 45C idle, 58-60C under full load. It's fairly warm in my room too, which doesn't help. Using a Thermalright SLK-900(a) w/80mm Thermaltake Whisper Fan. I hate the noise of loud fans.

test and test and test using memtest, and use as little voltage as will get it through.

there is too much component-to-component variation on both motherboards and CPU's to give a universal answer.

get it good enough for a full pass with memtest, then hammer on it for about an hour with memtest test#5, then go for windows safe mode, and get it prime95 blended torture test stable for anhour or so, then go for normal windows and get it prime95 blended torture stable for 8 hours or so.

memtest freezing, on my system, is typically the result of too little CPU voltage. prime 95 errors are usually the result of too little chipset or ram voltage.

use the minimum voltage to get teh computer stable at each step, or you will limit your overclock,and reduce component life-expectancy.

i feel like i repeat that every few days..................sorry if i missed a detail due to oversight.
 
My XP25 runs 2.4GHz, 45C full load, 1.875V with a Swiftech MCX462-V with 92mm Panaflo. I use Arctic Alumina. It's 38-40C at idle, depending on room temp.

It takes 1.775V to run 2.2GHz, IIRC.
 
i have a 2500+ at 2.2ghz @ 1.60 vcore.

idle 35-39
load 40-43

i have an si-97 with a 92mm tornado turned down on a fan controller
 
Not to threadjack, but is that an XP-M? Otherwise I'd be surprised if they didn't sell that as a 3200+, since they officially take 1.65V for their rated speeds.
 
I'm having somewhat of the same problem...

My Barton 2500+ is clocked @ 2.2 gHz (on 1.75 V) w/ a Thermalright SLK-800 and a blue LED Coolermaster 80 mm fan. It looks pretty sweet, but my temps were flying into the mid-50's and above on load... I added a 120 mm on a Zalman bracket , and the temps dropped to 47-50 idle. Could be my case air-flow, tho- I use the Antec Lanboy, and from some of the reviews I've read that particular case has pretty terrible airflow.

I think the extra voltage that you're using (and I'm using) jacks up the temp quite a bit- running the CPU at stock with my setup makes the temps around 35-38 idle and 42-44 on load.

I thought about getting a high CFM fan like the Delta or Tornado, but I can do without the hair dryer inside my case. I already have 4 fans running, and it's too loud for me...

Any suggestions on extra cooling?
 
I don't have a 2500+, but I have a 2600+ Barton core. I run it at 1.9Volts 2.3GHz. It stays in the mid 40's during idle and about 51-54 during full load.

I have a 2500+ @ 2.2Ghz @ stock voltage. My heatsink is a thermalright SLK-800 with a thermaltake smart case fan running 100%, and I re-lapped my heatsink to optical grade mirror finish. Under 100% load (Folding@Home) I max out at 40C.
 
40 C is a really good temp on load- what case and thermal compound are you using?

I'm asking, since I'm beginning to dislike my Antec Lanboy's airflow...
 
my 2800+ barton is pushed to 2.3ghz and i get 37 idle, 43-44 load. lots of air flow through case
 
First of all, nobody is saying anything about how they got their clock speed (i.e., 200x11, 250x9, etc.). Also, few are telling whether they are using stock, air, or water cooling.

I have my signature (202x11) with a ThermalTake Volcano 9 heatsink and a cut up rack of AC server fans for my intake, outflow, and CPU fans. My idle temps are @ 45C and my load temps rarely see above 55C. I have an older model (came off the line before the first price drop, but was purchased just after). Not sure about the model number as I don't want to remove my heatsink to find out (alias, I'm lazy).

Now if I run with just my CPU fan plugged in, the noise drops to sub conversation decibels and my idle temps jump to 50C. Unfortunately, my load temps sky rocket. Since the max operating temp on the Barton core is 75C, I set MBM5 (Motherboard Monitor) to shutdown at 70C. Thus, on my CPU fan alone, my PC shutsdown on load after about 5 minutes of load.

Those of you with low case airflow need more case airflow.
