According to DigiTimes, AMD’s original plans of shipping the quad-core Barcelona in June have now been pushed back to August or September.

The sources noted that AMD has informed them that the introduction of Barcelona will be delayed until August or September, instead of the originally planned June. However, the sources also noted that this schedule is still subject to change. The Barcelona CPU samples they have currently are not the final versions and bugs are still being discovered, they added.

that's not good. If this is true, I wonder when we can expect desktop chips?

Let me guess... AMD had a unique opportunity to launch its whole lineup at the same time, so they are delaying the launch by a few weeks. Right AMD talking head? Afterall, I loved reading those killer reviews on the HD 2600XT. Sorry I forgot they aren't available. *Sigh* If true, this is really just getting downright sad.

AMD is going down the crapper. By the looks of things my next upgrade will be Intel.

Maybe they want to launch a top to bottom range of CPUs and that's the reason for the delay. :p That excuse almost worked before.

Between this and the R600, AMD is really holding up my new system build...

They probably found that their next line of processors were too advance, so they ended up delaying it. Like they said, they push the technology when it's needed.:p

This is really starting to be par for the course for AMD. I hope they are able to fix this slump their in, but constantly missing deadlines isn't the way to do it.

Ouch, its going to have to be one hell of a contender if they expect it to hold up against $266 Quad 2.4ghz intel chips.

If the results of these delays are the same as ATI's,AMD is in big trouble.I'd like to see them remain competetive for the consumer's sake, but if they keep this up neither Intel or Nvidia are going to have much reason to keep dropping prices.:(

No kidding. I still plan on using Barcelona for server builds as long as they perform well, I am an AMD fanboy when it comes to my servers...but it's hard to pass up a sub $300 quad core processor for my desktop. Wow. Just wow.

Yeah, we are running a dual opteron server atm but the quads sound mighty tasty after the price drops...

Just when you think AMD cant possibly sink any further they manage to trip themselves and fall even farther.

sigh... I stuck it out with AMD one more time with my newest build, just because they were so dang cheap (before Core2 price cuts). But in a year, unless they have something REALLY competitive with 4 cores, it might be Intel I buy.... and by the looks of the new video cards, Nvidia again :p

Poor AMD, here's to (trying) to keep it competitive.

Yeah this is not good news. The quad cheap intels will be out before these processors, AMD is really going to fall hard on that. The least they could have done was to steal some light from the Intel price drop.

First they screw me over with lies about the R600 which affected me personally and now they are delaying AMD Servers that I was expecting to purchase which is going to efect me professionally.

Unbelievable.

Many Network Administrators like myself purchase new servers usually in the summer time frame. In my case I was gearing up to purchase two new monster Terminal servers, replace our DC and add a new file server. Budgets are always conservative in the beginning of the year, and especially at the end. With my time frame being mid summer it looks as if AMD will once again be screwing it's bread and butter customers.

Hector Ruiz needs to be tossed on his ass yesterday.

I would KILL to hear Brent's comments on this matter if he has heard that they maybe indeed late once again.
