Barbs - Do they make a huge difference?

I've been trying to find information on this for a bit now and I'm not getting much luck so I figured I'd post.
I don't have the same barbs throughout my setup, and I was thinking that it may be a good idea.

Who makes the best barbs and is there a standard for barbs? In other words, are they all compatible with one another being they are the same size? 1/4 bottom to 1/2 OD?

EK barbs are great.

The DD barbs are lacking in quality these days, but no barb is amazingly better than another one (of the same size).

All G 1/4 barbs fit G 1/4 slots... 1/4 refers to the threading on the barb, not the ID.

D-Tek barbs are the best in terms of quality. EK follows a close second.

DD barbs are horrendous and strangely enough even Swiftech barbs aren't manufactured all that well.

Barb's won't do much in terms of performance, but they'll give you the piece of mind that they won't warp from all the torque. They're also a helluva lot easier to remove tubing from.

So D-Tek and EK.

That's VERY odd to me that Swiftech wouldn't make good barbs.

Indeed this isn't for any type of performance boost, it's just a peace of mind thing. :)

hmm.... how about those DD Perfect Seal Fittings? The 3/8" version have the same ID as a standard 1/2" OD fitting... the only annoyance is that it requires a fair bit of effort to stretch tubing around it. The fitting is so tight I don't even need/use a hose clamp

I looked at those, but I really would rather use a higher flow fitting and clamps because I don't want to yank my stuff apart trying to remove a hose if I never need to.

Masterkleer tubing over a perfect seal barb is probably the most secure fitting you can find.

But, yeah... It sucks to remove the tubes, and it's even more annoying putting them on :p
