Just curious if anybody knows what the standard backlight life of a ccfl is.... I know that one could die in one month or 5 years ... but what are the manufacture specs in general. One of my monitors(dvi) seems blurry when warming up.... Any cause for concern? I would take pictures but not really worried about it just wondering when i should save up for another one.
Thanks in advance you guys are always helpful.

This is not a spec published much these days, and it varies so take this as guidance only.

Normal CCFL's last about 40,000-50,000 hours, with about half that time till half brightness. Most of them slowly change color temperature and dim very gradually over time. Because half dim takes some 20,000 to 25,000 hours, many folks never notice. Color critical folks will tell you that because of this nature calibration of a screen needs to be done on a fairly recurrent basis. Gaming and office type users probably won't notice much. And it's fairly easy to do the math on how long your screen is on, to show that most people will replace a monitor long before 20,000 hours. But that's the general life of CCFL's. :)

I've been using my first LCD monitor, 19" Planar PX191, on a regular basis from the time I bought it ( Oct 2002) until it I replaced it with a NEC 2690WUXi (Nov 2007). Figure 40 hours per week during that time period, or roughly 10,560 hours.

It has been used sparingly since Nov 2007, probably another 400 hours attached to my HTPC until I boxed it up back in Dec 2008. I got a cheap Asus VK246H attached to my HTPC since I wanted a wide screen monitor. Finally gave away my Planar PX 191 to a friend this summer.

Total estimated usage is 11k hours.
