I have some awkward problem with one of my HDDs: a WD3200KS. I have a total of 3 hdds in my workstation: a 74GB "boot'' drive, a 320GB "games/ localdocs (working dir from my CVS server)" drive and a 300GB "DVD images etc, stuff that I rarely ever use" drive. All three are connected via SATA to my nForce controller.
For a while I had an awkward problem with the WD drive, when accessing it, I would see the root folder instantly, but could not select/ double click anything for a little while. It was also recognized as a "video folder". After turning off the "common tasks" this seemed to disappear.
The other day (monday or tuesday) the drive (WD3200KS) went "buh-bye" from my PC, i.e. it just disappeared, during runtime. A reboot later, I saw it as an uninitialized drive with no partitions. So I shut down, wriggled/ reseated all the Sata cables and tried again. At this point the drive appeared to be fine and all is good.
I have a bunch of mp3's temporarily stored on that drive too, mostly ones that I have just ripped with EAC. Three CDs that I have recenetly purchased were ripped and I played their contents from this drive. I remember listening to all of these tracks yesterday.
Today, I wanted to add some more mp3's from that folder to my playlist, and noticed that there were a lot missing, incl. some I had just listened to yesterday.
I have run the WD Diag software and it claims that my drive is fine. I am currently running getDataBack to see what it spits out.
Suggestions for what I ought to do, what could be causing this are welcome.
