Hey all,

Alright I've been messing with my laptop for a week or so now.

First, I bought Logitech X-240s, they were terrible. Had all kinds of feedback. Some people suggested I get an external sound card. I bought this one:

That didn't solve the problem, after researching more, I found out that feedback is a common problem with those speakers.

So today I start looking for new speakers, I looked for M-Audio speakers, the local shop that deals with those speakers was all out. The guy suggested these:

http://www.behringer.com/MS40/index.cfm?lang=eng

So I plug them in, using the 1/8th plug from the sound card into the speaker. They play, but sound pretty bad. Really muddy. I've played with the bass and treble knobs, but they still sound bad.

So I decided to go to circuit city to buy a S/PDIF cable because the speakers show in their instructions to use that when hooking them to a computer. I bought this:

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Mons...M/sem/rpsm/oid/8407/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

Now when I use that cable, nothing plays out of the speakers at all. I read the instructions for the sound card and it shows the S/PDIF cable needs to go to a decoder.

Would I need a decoder if I exchanged the S/PDIF cable for an optical cable? This is really really frustrating.

Thanks in advance for any help.

$45 for a SPDIF cable is crazy, if you have an old RCA cable kicking around just use that instead - it's the same thing.

I see there's a switch on the back of the speakers to select coax or optical, did you select coax?

I've never been a big fan of the Behringer speakers, if they still sound bad to you then I'd return them for M-Audio speakers.

Yea I had the switch on spdif. I returned the cable and the old logitechs, I'm returning the behringers tomorrow, hopefully the shop doesn't give me drama.

I bought a pair of creative speakers, no sub, no frills... they work.
