Audio Processing on your Video Card

Maybe this is the start of using these highly programable video cards for other applications than just 3D rendering! Pretty cool stuff!
 
Be nice to put it to use rather than just powering my average 3d game. Interesting stuff

I guess the first $1K videocard is not far off....but on a positive note, I guess I wont have to deal with creatives shit drivers anymore.

I too am tired of Creative and their amazing ability to slow down sound technology. Its 2004, and yet creatives only major advancements have been from 2 speaker stereo to 7.1

96 or 128-bit FP floating point precision sound creator/mixer. None of this 16 or 24-bit Integer stuff. There will be no question as to what sounds "perfect", A videocard could easily process and mix sounds in realtime at thousands of times the 44.1khz/16bit resolution of a normal CD.

Seti packets in the VPU could easily beat CPU calcs (CPU's are still designed around the x86, which is not fast at all for the curve calcs Seti needs)

Best idea evar! Make videocards programmable.

They should really make the sound cards programmable as well, because they're still stuck at what is analagous to DX7 fixed-function graphics rendering. You can not just apply any "sound shader" that you want and are limited to things like echo and reverb with a few controlling parameters.
