Audio device not detected

To make a long story short, my brother's computer went semi-haywire and we had to reformat the master drive (and the slave drive is still on the fritz, it seems). Everything is ship-shape with that, except there are no audio devices detected. The speakers are speakers that are mounted on the side of his Compaq 17" monitor, and since they're basically "stock" speakers, so to speak, they don't have any drivers at all.

In the Device Manager, under "Other Devices" there is listed the "Multimedia Audio Controller", which I suspected might have something to do with it, but unfortunately all it gives me the option to do is "Reinstall Driver" and there are no drivers (not online, nor on a disk or anything).

My brother is using onboard sound. I would really like to get this resolved for him.

Sounds like you just need to reinstall the drivers for the sound card. If you have a compaq, they should be on your restore disk. if not, then you either need to look for the disk that came with the sound card, or look for drivers on the internet. Once those are installed then you should have no problems.
 
Yeah, find out the model of sound implementation in that particular computer model and download the drivers for it.
