Attempt to fix 2005FPW backlight

tonight at 530pm sharp, est time, im going to attempt to fix my 1 day old 2005fpw backlight... i dont know how yet but ill take pics as i go through it.

either im gonna try and seal up around the edges of the lcd or move the liquid around inside it and see what happens.

wish me luck.

if anyone has any ideas as to what causes the backlight problem let me know asap.
 
Modifying your monitor is probably going to void your warranty BTW...I wouldn't do it.

I think most people complaining about the backlight problem in the 2005FPW aren't aware of why this "problem" exists. A S-IPS panel like the one in the 2005FPW has a very poor black level. In the case of this monitor, .76 cd/m^2. Naturally the blacks aren't going to seem very black...more like gray at best. Add to the fact that the 2005FPW is a very bright monitor (353 cd/m^2) amplifies the problem even more. The 2001FP had the same problem, except that it is a lot less bright. IMO, the problem that most people see in the 2005FPW more has to do with the technology, rather than a manufacturing or design defect.
 
I wouldn't do anything to void the warranty. Just try to RMA it.
 
I noticed on mine that I can actually adjust the backlight level by pushing on the panel itself, especially in the corners. I can also adjust it by flexing and squeezing the frame around the panel (lightly of course). It almost seems like the frame doesn't fit around the lcd panel correctly.
Cheap design, but it doesn't bother me and I love my monitor.

but if its a technology defect why isnt the problem uniform across the whole panel?
 
I wouldn't say the technology as a whole is a defect. S-IPS technology doesn't block the backlight very well, therefore, you see the backlight easiest from where the backlight actually is. The color "black" is created by the liquid crystals totally blocking the backlight. S-IPS doesn't block it very well, so the most amount of leakage will be the strongest where the backlight is located.
 
well i cant figure out how it comes apart. ive pryed and poked and prodded but nothing budges.

if you feel around the edges of the screen it feels different then in the center where theres no backlight problem.. its almost like the frame that the screen sits into is bent or something.

if i could just get in there with something i bet i could get i to go away

if i take a rubberband and tape it to the center of the screen and then pull on it the problem areas get a little better.
 
You got balls. I'm not sure what your doing is smart, but I'll say you have balls for trying it. I say if its that bad RMA it, if you can live with it... live with it. I will wait until someone comes out with a good, tested, idea then wait for others to try it, and if successful with no cases of failure or destruction then I might try it.

Right now I am just happy to have this monitor for $396 and to have no dead pixels.
